Identification: I Need Your Help!
I saw this bird in Illinois Beach State Park on October 23 and only spotted it because of how vocal it was when I walked past. It flew deeper into the brush and out of sight by the time I got my camera in focus. I've still not been able to identify it due to the poor quality of the images and unfortunately, I've not seen another one since.
After a bit of research, I believe it's a type of wren. Below are the eBird options for my area and pictures of the most likely candidates.

I know it is uncommon but I would have to say the Bewick's Wren. You may have found some new information.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input! Truthfully, the Bewick's Wren was my first instinct too. I know the pictures aren't great but I got a good look at it outside of the lens and would have bet money it was a BW. However, Cornell Lab's abundance data makes a strong case against it. Check it out here: https://birdsna.org/Species-Account/bna/species/bewwre/introduction. It's the only reason it has me leaning more towards the Marsh Wren.
